The Red Montipora is a bright red encrusting coral.  Propagated Montipora acclimate very well to new tanks due to the fact that they are tank raised. It is better to acquire coral frags when they are young. It seems that small frags have more ability to adjust to adverse conditions and survive. Montipora generally grow very quickly under good conditions.

To bring out the most intense coloration of this coral, we recommend metal halide lighting, although Montipora can also be kept successfully under other lighting conditions.

Make sure that moderate currents will be able to supply them with necessary nutrients and trace elements. Although symbiotic algae called zooxanthellae hosted within them supply most of their nutritional requirements through photosynthesis they will thrive with supplemental feedings. They can be fed regularly on any fleshy marine foods. Choose food items that can fit into the mouth which expands from its normal resting size.

Supplementing their diet with the addition of iodine, trace elements, marine snow, baby brine shrimp, phytoplankton, and food for filter feeders will help to insure their continued good health.
